The Rajasthan Sanskrit University was established in the state of Rajasthan with the aim of conducting comprehensive studies and teaching of the entire Sanskrit literature, continuous specialized research, arrangement of related interdisciplinary subjects, and presenting practical interpretations based on simple scientific methods of research on the knowledge and science embedded in Sanskrit literature, along with the objective of bringing the results and achievements of other important research to light. The Rajasthan Sanskrit University Act 1998 (Act 10 of 1998), for the establishment of Rajasthan Sanskrit University in the state of Rajasthan, was approved by His Excellency the Governor on 2-9-1998.
On February 6, 2001, Rajasthan Sanskrit University was formally inaugurated, with Padma Shri Dr. Mandan Mishra appointed as its first Chancellor.
According to the order issued by the Under Secretary, Education (Group – 6), Order No. P. (1) Education – 6/2000 dated 27-06-2005, from June 27, 2005, the name of the university was changed to Jagadguru Ramanandacharya Rajasthan Sanskrit University, Jaipur.
The Rajasthan Sanskrit Academy was established by the Rajasthan government in 1980 on the occasion of Sanskrit Day. The primary objectives of the establishment of the Sanskrit Academy include the preservation, development, and promotion of the Sanskrit language and its literature through the establishment of research institutes; publication of knowledge embedded in Sanskrit texts and translation into other languages, as well as its dissemination; preservation of Vedic traditions of pronunciation and rituals, etc., various activities related to the promotion of Sanskrit are integrated. The Academy organizes seminars, workshops, various anniversaries, Sanskrit poets’ conferences, composition camps, astrology-priesthood-Sanskrit discourse camps, mantra chanting competitions, and workshops based on theoretical and practical aspects. It encourages and publishes research writing in contemporary style under the guidance and presence of eminent scholars of Sanskrit. The Academy has so far published more than 100 books. It also provides financial assistance to authors for the publication of their original works to encourage Sanskrit writing. Financial assistance is provided to needy Sanskrit scholars. The publication of the quarterly magazine ‘Swarnmangala’ by the Academy is ongoing. This magazine has gradually taken the form of an excellent research journal, and scholars are benefiting from deep contemplation on profound subjects of Sanskrit literature. With a view to encouraging original writing in Sanskrit, the Academy annually awards national and state-level awards and honors, including the Magha Award, Padma Shri Dr. Mandan Mishra Award, and Pt. Ambikadatta Vyas Award, being the main ones.
